Coach of the Golden Eaglets, Fatai Amoo insists that his team deserved to qualify for the 2020 U17 WAFU B semi-final in Lome.

Nigeria qualified ahead of their Western African rivals on goals difference after Cote d’Ivoire hammered Ghana 3-1 at the Stade Municipal.

Despite qualifying, his tactics was heavily criticized by Nigerians who claim the team performed poorly at the tournament. The Eaglets lost their opening game to Ivory Coast and drew against Ghana.

Speaking ahead of the match, Amoo who defended his team showing at the tournament insisted the boys worked for their own luck, but admitted they have to up their game against the Burkina babes.

“Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and definitely, we have to work before talking about luck, if we didn’t defend well against Ivory Coast or didn’t play to a good level and get a draw against Ghana, the story would have been different.

“I can’t argue with people on their opinions, but the most important thing for us to do better than we have done in previous two matches and try to get a win.

“We must remain organized defensively and also try to convert our chances,” the coach said.

Nigeria will now take on Burkina Faso at the Stade Kegue on Friday.

The winners of the semi-finals will battle for the diadem on Wednesday next week at the Stade Kegue, and also qualify for the CAF U17 Cup of Nations billed for 13th-31st March in Morocco, according to Today.ng.
