The Flying Eagles, on Thursday, edged Uganda 1-0 in the quarter-final of the ongoing U-20 AFCON in Egypt to book a place in the semi-finals.

Coach Ladan Bosso's side also qualified for the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia.

An own goal from Uganda defender Ibrahim Juma on the cusp of the first half was all the young Eagles needed to beat their counterparts in what was a keenly contested game at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.

Nigeria began the game on the front foot and had a large spell of possession in the early stages of the game.

The Flying Eagles nearly opened the score in the third minute, but Ibrahim Muhammad saw his effort deflected and eventually cleared.

The Hippos of Uganda came into the game strongly and nearly opened the scoring in minute 8 but Ivan Irinimbabazi's powerful header was parried by goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso.

The threat served as a wake-up call for the Flying Eagles as they reclaim control of the game, and their effort was rewarded on the stroke of halftime as they forced Uganda to put the ball in their own net.

The second half could not produce any goal as the Flying Eagles held on to their 1-0 goal lead till the end of proceedings.
