U-20 AFCON: Argentina is our reference point – Bosso

Head Coach of Nigeria's U-20 men's team Ladan Bosso believes his charges can replicate Argentina's remarkable World Cup campaign in Qatar.

La Albiceleste won their third FIFA World Cup trophy after losing 2-1 to huge underdogs Saudi Arabia in their group opener.

The Lionel Messi-inspired side bounced back strongly in their subsequent matches with wins against Mexico, Poland, Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia and finally defending champions France in the final to end their 36-year wait for the Mundial.

In the same vein, Nigeria's Flying Eagles lost 1-0 to Senegal in their opening fixture at the ongoing U-20 Nations Cup in Egypt.

But the Ladan Bosso-led side picked themselves up to record wins against Egypt, Mozambique, and Uganda to cement their place in the semi-finals.

Former El-Kanemi boss, Bosso, believes his tutored side can mirror the world champions astonishing campaign in Qatar by forging ahead to win the tournament despite losing their first game.

“After losing to Senegal in the first match. I said that I believe that my boys can bounce back and probably win the trophy,” Bosso told Pulse Sports.

“I gave a reference point with the World Cup in Qatar. Argentina won the World Cup, but they lost their first match against Saudi Arabia. Then they sat down and worked on their mistakes, and at the end of the day, they won the trophy.

“That is what I’m foreseeing with the Nigerian team.” he added

Nigeria will play either Gambia or South Sudan in the semi-finals as the two sides lock horns on Friday, March 3 for a place in the last four.
