Transfer: What Souness said about Manchester United's £80m signing, Maguire -

Former Newcastle United boss, Graeme Souness, has said that Harry Maguire will be an ‘outstanding’ signing for Manchester United.

United have reached an agreement with Leicester City to sign the England defender for £80million, which is a world record fee for a defender.

Maguire will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third summer signing.

Reacting to Manchester United’s record-breaking move, Souness told Sky Sports, “Everyone knows United are desperate to get back to the top of the Premier League.

“There’s a premium paid normally for Manchester United but this time I think there’s a premium on the premium.”

Maguire, who is expected to complete his medical at Manchester United this weekend, will become the most expensive defender in history.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk previously held that record but Souness added, “£80m? It’s not for me to say it’s too much,’ the former Premier League defender added.

‘That’s how much he cost, they were prepared to pay and they’ve got him. I think he will be outstanding for Manchester United.”
