Former Nigeria goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro has shed light on how Ademola Lookman struggled to make any meaningful impact in the Premier League.

The Super Eagles star had underwhelming spells at Everton, Fulham and Leicester City in the Premiership.

The 28-year-old later secured a permanent move to Atalanta from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022 in a transfer that completely changed the trajectory of his career, culminating in him winning the Europa League and African Footballer of the Year.

Lookman joined Spanish giants Atletico Madrid after three-and-a-half years in Bergamo and has been an instant hit at the club.

The Nigerian international has registered four goals and provided two assists for Diego Simeone's side.

Babayaro believes that Lookman couldn't cope with the pressure and demands of the English game.

“When you look at how Lookman did not perform in England, but went on to work wonders in Italy and Spain, why did he never really fit in the UK?

“Lookman likes to play with ease and style. He likes to play without too much pressure.

“But in England, you’ve microseconds before something happens and the pressure is on you to release the ball,” Babayaro stated on the ATHLST podcast.
