Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos aimed a subtle dig at Nigeria following his side's 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers.
South Africa held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw at the Free State Toyota Stadium, giving themselves a massive boost in their World Cup qualifying campaign while denting Nigeria’s hopes of securing a World Cup spot.
Bafana Bafana took the lead in the 25th minute courtesy of an own goal from skipper William Troost-Ekong, before Calvin Bassey scored the equalizer on the stroke of halftime.
The home side held on in the second half to secure a vital point, which saw them move to 17 points in Group C with just two matches left to play.
The Super Eagles currently sit in third position with 11 points, three points adrift of the Republic of Benin on 14 points, and six points behind South Africa.
Speaking in a post-match press conference, Hugo Broos mocked the star-studded Nigerian team for failing to beat his locally based Bafana Bafana side.
"You know, when you see the team of Nigeria, there is no Nigerian in the team. They all play abroad in big teams like Atalanta, AC Milan, Fulham—you name it. We [Bafana Bafana] don't have that. But you see that it is not a disadvantage; we have good players," Broos said in a post-match interview.
"I hope with what we did now with the national team, hopefully we will do it in the future, and those players get the opportunity to go to Europe because that should help South African football."
