The six Nigerian strikers leading the goal chart in Europe's top leagues

The 2022/2023 season has seen some blistering performances from Nigerian strikers across some of the major European leagues.

In this piece, we examine some of these forward men and their staggering numbers for their respective clubs in Europe.

Victor Osimhen - Napoli (13 goals)

The Napoli frontman continues to grow in strength and power. Osimhen is the leading top scorer in the Italian Serie A after netting 13 goals in 15 league appearances for the Naples-based team.

The 24-year-old is on the cusp of outdoing his best personal best where he managed 14 goals in the Serie A last season.

Osimhen has propelled the Spalletti-led side to open a 12-point gap at the apex of the Serie A table.

Ademola Lookman - Atalanta (11 goals)

Ademola Lookman has been the biggest surprise package in Serie A this season.

The 25-year-old is undoubtedly the best signing in the Italian topflight this season after netting 11 goals for Gian Piero Gasperini's side.

The ex-Leicester City winger is second on the top scorer's chart with two goals behind his countryman Victor Osimhen.

Lookman has managed 4 goals in his last two games for the I Nerazzurri and is one of the most prolific forwards in Europe now.

Terem Moffi - FC Lorient (12 goals)

The Lorient striker is in the form of his life after managing 12 league goals in the French Ligue 1.

The 23-year-old is only behind PSG star Kylian Mbappe (13) on the top scorer's chart in France.

Moffi is tied on the same number of goals as Lille's Jonathan David.

His rich goal-scoring form has attracted interest from the Premier League with a strong link to West Ham United.

Paul Onuachu - Genk (14 goals)

After enduring a difficult start in the Belgium Pro League, the lanky Genk striker has found his goal scoring boots.

Onuachu has been in a blistering form and is the leading top scorer in the Belgium league with 14 goals.

Chuba Akpom - Middlesbrough (13 goals)

Chuba Akpom is the leading top scorer in the English Championship after netting 13 league goals to Middlesbrough.

The ex-Arsenal man was named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month of December for his prolific goal-scoring form.

Josh Maya - Bordeaux (11 goals)

Maya rediscovered his scoring boots after going seven games without a goal for Girondin de Bordeaux at the tail end of last year.

The Nigerian forward has gone ahead to add three more goals to his tally in French Ligue 2 this month, making him the top scorer in the league with 11 goals.

From the Nigerian perspective, fans will hope these forwards will maintain their form through to the end of the season.
