“Well, he must be wondering how on earth he's gonna have to get past this big fella” , these were the words of the commentator after former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama pulled off four decent saves to deny Argentine megastar, Lionel Messi, at the 2010 World Cup.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria played the South American giants in their first group stage game at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Vincent Enyeama delivered a stellar performance in that game to earn the man of the match award after a phenomenal display.

The ex-Enyimba shot stopper made six top draw saves against the Albiceleste with four of them coming from seven times Ballon d'Or winner, Lionel Messi.

Argentine coach Diego Maradona praised him as the reason Messi did not score in the game.

The Maradona-led Argentine side won by a lone goal, courtesy of Gabriel Heinze's diving header in the 6th minute.

Messi, so typical of him later got the best of Enyeama when he put two goals past the former Nigerian international four years later when the two sides met again at the same stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Vincent Enyeama is arguably one of Africa's best goalkeepers of all time.

He was Nigeria's most capped player with 101 appearances until Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa surpassed that record in November 2021.
