Super Eagles star reveals what his mother had wanted him to become

Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers has narrated how his mother had hoped he would grow up to become a singer or dancer. Born in Belgium to a Nigerian mother and Belgian father, Dessers began his footballing career with OH Leuven and played for a number of clubs in his country of birth.

He currently plays for Italian Serie A side Cremonese, but he earned his first ever call-up to the Nigerian national team in 2020.

So far, Dessers has played three matches for the Super Eagles and many have touted him to become a formidable partner for Victor Osimhen.

His footballing career is progressing well and he already has many accomplishments, becoming the highest goalscorer in the newly introduced UEFA Europa Conference League, as per NPFL Updates.

The forward emerged as the top scorer with 10 goals for Feyenoord, pipping AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham to the top prize by just one goal.

The 27-year-old was on the losing side in the final however, as Jose Mourinho’s inspired AS Roma pipped the Eredivisie side 1-0 in the game played in Tirana, Albania last summer.

Dessers told Nieuwsblad in an interview, translated as follows: “I would love to be like Bruno Mars. My mom always hoped that I would become a singer or a dancer. Unfortunately for her, I became a professional football player.”
