Nigeria's table tennis star Aruna Quadri has moved a step up in the new International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Rankings.

The 34-year-old is now ranked 14th in the world following his astonishing feat in Algeria last week.

Quadri defeated Egypt's Omaar Assar 4-3 in a fiercely contested final of the ITTF competition.

He garnered 500 points at the competition to topple Germany's Tim Boll at the 14th position.

Reacting to the news of the latest ranking, Quadri expressed his excitement about his latest world ranking while relishing his performance in Algeria.

“Indeed, it is a kind of consolation. I’m very happy, everything happens for a reason. I hope to improve on this. Algeria is a country I will never forget. It’s my first time there and I won, it will be an everlasting memory for me.”

Nigeria's Taiwo Mati also moved up in the latest world ranking. The young table tennis star is now ranked 63rd in the world, his best-ever ranking.
