Super Eagles remain third in Africa but drop in world ranking

Super Eagles remain third in Africa but drop in world ranking Super Eagles remain third in Africa but drop in world ranking

The Super Eagles dropped three places to number 35 in the latest Fifa World Rankings released on Thursday

The Nigeria senior national team stayed as the fourth-best team in Africa despite not winning any of their two games played during the period under review.

Senegal are still the top-ranked team on the continent at number 21 globally, followed by Tunisia, Algeria, Nigeria, and Morocco.

The Super Eagles failed to defeat the Leone Stars on matchday three and matchday four of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on November 13 and 17.

The Gernot Rohr-led side managed to squander a four-goal advantage in the first leg played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, allowing their visitors to record a remarkable fightback.

The reverse fixture also resulted in a draw with neither team able to breach the defences of the other, only four days after serving the world an eight-goal thriller.

Last month, the Super Eagles dropped out of the world’s top 30 – three places down to 32nd – and out of Africa’s top three after failing to win any of their friendly ties against Algeria and Tunisia.

But no other African team could capitalize on Nigeria’s latest pair of disappointing draws.

On the global scene, though, Turkey, Slovakia, and Paraguay have overtaken the three-time African champions on the FIFA ranking.
