The Super Eagles of Nigeria kept their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive with a slender 1-0 win over Rwanda in the qualifiers.

The 2023 AFCON finalists moved one place up in Group C behind leaders South Africa and Gernot Rohr's Benin Republic side.

The three-time African champions have also closed the gap with South Africa to six points ahead of their cracker against the Bafana Bafana on Tuesday, September 9.

Genk forward Tolu Arokodare came off the bench as a second-half substitute to score the all-important goal and secure all three points for Eric Chelle's side.

The victory was Nigeria's second win in the qualifiers campaign so far, as the Super Eagles have managed 10 points after seven games.
