Super Eagles defender Felix Agu has been ruled out of the upcoming FIFA World Cup playoffs due to injury.

The 26-year-old, who suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury during Werder Bremen’s 1–0 victory away to St. Pauli last month, is also set to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in the long term.

The one-cap Super Eagles star was initially expected to be sidelined for two months, but recent reports — according to Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer — indicate that the defender will not return to action until next year.

“His return will definitely not take place until the new year,” Niemeyer said, as quoted by DeichStube.

Agu featured for Germany at youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria.

He made his debut for the Super Eagles against Jamaica in the Unity Cup in May.
