Soweto Derby: Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro speaks on facing Kaizer chiefs coach Cavin Johnson

The head coach of Orlando Pirates, Jose Riveiro, has discussed facing Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby after they have just changed coaches.

Only last month did Chiefs appoint former Al Ahly SC assistant coach Calvin Johnson on an interim basis after Molefi Ntseki was relieved of his job.

Johnson has started on a fair note, having won one and lost the other of his two matches for the club so far.

Chiefs head into the fixture as the favourite, having won the last five league derbies. According to Riviero, the Soweto derby is bigger than any of the managers, adding that there wouldn’t be much impact from the sidelines.

He said via iDiski Times:

“It’s the same, with the new coach, new group of players, some new players in each and every team, Chiefs is not an exception.

“Like I said this game is different, individual a different approach, those different elements that are going to be part of the game probably is the one who’s gonna manage to dictate the tempo and the type of game we want to play.

“Hopefully especially for the spectators we can offer a bit of a show, more than in the recent ones in the league, probably not beautiful games, small margins, not many goals and hopefully this time it can be different.”

Sports Brief earlier reported that a South African legend has taken his rightful place among the greats.

Kaizer Motaung was inducted into the South African Hall of Fame during a glamourous celebrity-filled banquet in Johannesburg as it comes days before the Soweto Derby, and Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson is hoping to use the moment to spur on his players.

The left-footed magician returned to South Africa and founded his famous club, drawing inspiration from his NASL ties. Kaizer Chiefs have since won the South African top division 13 times.
