Simple matter, Peseiro must go - Oseni, Dr Abati agree Super Eagles coach must be fired

Arise TV Morning show hosts, Reuben Abati and Rufai Oseni opine that the contract of Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro must not be renewed when it expires.

The Portuguese gaffer who was appointed last year by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has failed to live up to expectations since replacing Austin Eguavoen.

His bad run of 3 wins in 8 matches with the Super Eagles with the team has spooked football stakeholders in the country who have called on the Nigeria Football Federation not to extend the contract.

The former Venezuelan national team coach has also recorded 1.13 points per game.

Under his reign, the Eagles have recorded unwanted records in the game with the latest being their most embarrassing defeat in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja on March 24, 2023.

The team has scored 15 goals and conceded 11 goals since his reign started in 2022.

The former Venezuelan national team coach has also recorded 1.13 points per game.

Speaking on the Sports Update segment of the Morning Show, Rufai believed that Peseiro's reign has been characterized by failures. According to him, Nigeria must get someone that is developmental and can help our football grow higher.

"If we were to put that question to AI, will AI give him a new contract? We all know the answer. No! Don't give Jose Peseiro another contract. I mean this was the guy that Fashanu talk about that this guy is not great. So we can't give him another contract."

"I mean if you have a child with a mathematic assignment and out of 8, he scored 3 and failed 5. It means he failed now, so don't give him another contract. Nigeria should get to the point where we can really punch higher."

"Let us get a good coach, Let us get someone that is developmental and can help our football grow higher."

Dr Abati on his side opined that "if you fail in football, you must go".

He said: "If a person fails class in football, there is no repeat as we have seen even in the premier league. You mess up, they tell you to go."
