Italian Serie A outfit Bologna are considering the option of signing Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong.

The Nigerian international has struggled for game time at the Vicarage Road since last season as the Hornets dropped to the EFL Championships following a disappointing campaign in the English topflight.

The 28-year-old missed 28 games last term and has so far managed just two appearances in the Championship this season.

Sky Italia reports that Bologna are keen on bringing in the ex-Udinese man to beef up their defence.

The Serie A side see Troost-Ekong as the second best option for Olympique Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi who declined a deal to join the club.

“Bologna are keen to reinforce their defence and are evaluating making a move for Troost-Ekong,” the report said.

“The defender currently at Watford knows the Italian league well from having played in Serie A with Udinese. Balerdi on the other hand, has decided to reject the Rossoblu’s proposal to stay at Marseille.”

The Dutch-born Nigerian has also been linked with a move to Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Turkish champions want Troost-Ekong on a loan deal with an option to buy.
