The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has updated his social media pages with a photo of himself seated in front of a shelf displaying the AFCON trophy.
This was barely 24 hours after CAF Appeal Board stripped his country of the AFCON 2025 title it won against host Morocco.
CAF stated that the decision by Senegalese players to abandon the final, which they later returned to and won, indicated a forfeiture, according to CAF rules.
CAF then awarded the title to Morocco and declared that the host country won the final 3-0.
Meanwhile, Senegal has vowed to appeal the CAF decision, which drew criticism from football fans worldwide.
In that regard, President Faye has directed the Senegalese football authorities to appeal the verdict with all necessary measures.
An official statement read, "The President of the Republic states that Senegal notes with regret and indignation the decision of the CAF Appeals Board to strip the national football team of the 2025 African Championship title. Faced with this unprecedented decision, he calls upon the Government, and in particular the Minister of Sports, to take all swift and appropriate steps, in conjunction with the Senegalese Football Federation, to file the necessary appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport."
