Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has reportedly been sidelined after sustaining a hamstring injury upon his return to his club base.
The 32-year-old limped off in stoppage time during Nigeria’s third-place playoff clash against Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last Saturday.
Ajayi reported to Sky Bet Championship side Hull City earlier this week, and further tests carried out have confirmed that the defender has damaged his hamstring.
It is the second time Ajayi has suffered a hamstring injury since joining Hull City as a free agent last summer.
The former West Bromwich Albion defender was instrumental in Eric Chelle’s side, which enjoyed an impressive campaign at the recently concluded AFCON in Morocco.
Ajayi formed a solid defensive partnership with Fulham’s Calvin Bassey, helping Nigeria keep a clean sheet throughout the knockout stages of the tournament.
