Rohr speaks about possible tactical change for Cameroon showdown

The Super Eagles The Super Eagles

Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr, says he is expecting a different Cameroonian team from the side that lost to Nigeria during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and 2019 Afcon, when both sides clash in Austria for an international friendly at the Weiner Neustadt Stadium in Vienna, this Friday.

Rohr said he’s also aware the António Conceição da Silva Oliveira led Indomitable Lions will be desperate for revenge for the recent defeats they suffered.

Since taking charge of the Eagles’ job in 2016, the Franco-German tactician has masterminded two wins and one draw against Cameroon, including 4-0 trashing in Uyo.

Overall, Cameroon and Nigeria have met 22 times with Nigeria the most successful in their meetings as they have won 11 times and lost only four of those games, with the rest ending up in draws.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Rohr described Cameroon as one of the best teams on the continent and expects a difficult match from them.

“Good conditions for the game, we have Cameroon, one of the best teams in Africa. The three last games against Cameroon we put them out of the World Cup and the Afcon, so they’ll want to take revenge.”

“But we want to also win the game, to test some players. A lot of the players are not here; more than 11 of them could not come, but it’s also the opportunity to see other players and give them the chance to play and to get the result I hope.”

Rohr also stressed further that he could approach the two-game with different tactics.

“It’ll be two games. This is the first leg, so let’s try to do well with good organization. We have now two possibilities: 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 we will see what we can test tomorrow and also for the second game,” he said.
