Rohr says Super Eagles will be ready for AFCON despite injury concerns

Coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has said his lads will the ready for the 2022 African Cup of Nations.

Rohr tutored side sealed qualification to the final phase of the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign after a dull home draw against Caper Verde on Tuesday.

The three-times African champions labored to a 1-1 draw against the Blue Sharks at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday, November 16.

With the African Cup of Nations is just two months away, Rohr stated that some of his players are struggling to find rhythm after injuries, but there’s reason to be optimistic as some ahead of the tournament.

“After this group stage, we can be optimistic. Now we have the time to prepare for the AFCON,” he said.

“Some of our players are coming back from injury – [Wilfred] Ndidi, [Samuel] Chukwueze. They were not really in the rhythm of the competition, so let’s give a little time to our players and the team will be better and better.”

Nigeria finished on top of the Group with 13 points, while Cape Verde finished second with 11 points.

The 2022 African Cup of Nations will hold in Cameroon from January 9 to 6 February, while the World Cup play-offs will take place in March.
