Coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has disclosed why he played captain Ahmed Musa in the dead-rubber clash against Lesotho in the AFCON qualifiers.

Musa's inclusion in the side came as a shock to many after the german tactician said clubless Musa wasn't playing any part in the two fixtures.

Prior to the game, the former Leicester forward hadn't played competitively for five months.

His inclusion has forced Rohr to defend his decision.

“Musa could play because we only have 21 players with him we became 22.”

“So he could come in, he was fit and met the physical test. He’s in good shape and so, there was no reason not to allow him to play.”

“He’s the captain of the team and we want him to do it on the pitch and also we wanted to help him find a good club now,” he said.
