Nasarawa United youngster Reuben Nicodemus netted the first brace of the 2020-2021 Nigeria professional football league season and the defender has described the feeling as incredible.

Nicodemus grabbed the headlines after netting both goals for Solid Miners in their 2-1 victory over Wikki Tourists in their opening match of the season in Lafia.

Wikki Tourists took the lead with just five minutes into the match, thanks to a sumptuous strike from Promise Damala.

Nasarawa United hit back almost immediately when left-back, Reuben Nicodemus struck a beautiful shot past Stanley Nwabali.

Reuben Nicodemus completed his brace in the 52nd minute with another fine finish to hand the Solid Miners great start to the season.

Speaking after the game the Nasarawa United defender said he is glad to help the team get off to a wining start, but was surprised to score two goals in the match.

“Before the league commenced I prayed to God that I wanted to be the first scorer for my team and God answered my prayers but the second goal, I never saw it coming but I thank God it came when it did.”

On why he ran on the entire field after netting his second of the game, he said : “Seriously on the goal celebration, I don’t know what to do as I saw my self running all over the pitch because I was overwhelmed with joy,” he concluded.
