The Nigeria Football Federation Appeals Committee has overturned the Nigeria Premier Football League’s decision to banish Remo Stars from their home ground, ordering the immediate return of the club’s matches to Ikenne, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The NPFL had sanctioned the defending champions following crowd disturbances during their matchday 20 fixture against Ikorodu City on January 14.
The league fined the club N7m for breaching its framework and rules and directed that they play their home matches at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
According to the league body, Remo Stars failed to provide adequate security, leading to clashes between supporters that resulted in injuries and damage to vehicles.
The disciplinary panel also cited harassment of match officials, objects thrown onto the pitch causing stoppages and the alleged presence of dangerous items inside the stadium.
An earlier appeal had led to a partial reprieve on January 30, when the federation reduced the ban to five home matches while upholding the financial penalties.
However, in its latest ruling delivered on February 27, 2026, the Appeals Committee set aside the banishment order entirely, paving the way for the club’s return to the Remo Stars Stadium.
Remo are scheduled to host Katsina United on March 1 in what will be their first home fixture since the sanction was lifted.
The match will also mark the first game in charge for newly appointed coach Usman Abd’Allah.
The disruption has compounded a difficult campaign for the title holders. After beginning the season in Abeokuta due to renovation works in Ikenne, Remo returned home at the start of the second stanza and edged Ikorodu City 1-0 in their first match there since lifting the title in May 2025.
That fixture, however, was overshadowed by the crowd trouble that triggered disciplinary action.
A subsequent relocation to Ibadan proved short-lived after the pitch at the Lekan Salami Stadium was deemed unfit following a 1-1 draw against Kun Khalifat.
A proposed switch to Akure fell through, forcing a temporary move to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, where Remo lost 2-1 to Plateau United.
Further concerns over facilities led to another relocation to Akure, where they drew 1-1 with Abia Warriors in what became their only outing there.
Since their last victory in Ikenne on January 14, Remo have gone seven matches without a win and now sit 19th on the table with 11 games remaining.
Abd’Allah faces the task of steering the club away from relegation and avoiding the prospect of becoming the first defending champions in 16 years to drop into the second tier.
With the return to Ikenne confirmed, Remo will conclude the campaign on home soil, hosting Katsina United, Nasarawa United, Kwara United, Shooting Stars, Niger Tornadoes and Bayelsa United as they attempt to secure their top-flight status.
