Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has provided a fresh update on the future of Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq.

Sadiq spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia, where he impressed by scoring five goals in 15 appearances.

The 28-year-old returned to Sociedad for preseason last week after Valencia declined to make his loan deal permanent.

Speaking on the striker’s future, Aperribay revealed that there has been a change of plans regarding the Super Eagles forward, who is now likely to remain at the club after impressing in training sessions.

“There’s been a complete turnaround in Sadiq’s case,” Aperribay said in an interview with Noticias de Gipuzkoa, as reported by Complete Sports.

“The information I’ve received is that he has been training really well, just like the rest of the group that stayed back at Zubieta.

“We’ve been speaking daily with Erik Bretos about how things are going in training, and Sadiq is doing very well. We’ll see what happens, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him staying with us this season. I think that’s clear.”

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad from UD Almeria in the summer of 2022.
