REVEALED: The only defeat that made Jose Mourinho cry

Jose Mourinho Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspurs manager, Jose Mourinho aka "The Special One", has opened up on his most painful memory throughout his coaching career.

Jose who has spent time with top European sides, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United was on the verge of leading Real to the final of the Uefa Champions League in 2012.

Madrid were given the all-important away goal by Mesut Ozil who c cancelled Arjen Robben's opener but lost the first leg at the Allianz Arena courtesy Mario Gomez's 90th-minute goal.

Jose who was Real's head coach then only needed to win with a clean-sheet at the Santiago Bernabeau and the second-leg kick-started in their favour after Ronaldo's brace in the sixth and 14th minutes.

The Joy was short live when Jose's ex-player, Arjen Robben, netted the all-important away goal for the Germans in the 27th minute, forcing the game to extra-time and eventually penalties.

Bayern won the game to proceed to the finals by 3-1 on penalties.

Looking back at the defeat, the Tottenham head coach told Marca:
"Unfortunately, that's football. Cristiano, Kaka, Sergio Ramos... three complete monsters of football, there's no doubt about that, but they're also human.

"That night is the only time in my career as a coach that I've cried after a defeat. I remember it well... Aitor [Karanka, Madrid assistant at the time] and I pulled up in front of my house, in the car, crying.

"It was very hard because we were the best that season."

Madrid went won the Liga title and earned 100 points, nine more than Barcelona, setting the record for a single top-flight season in Spain.

Los Blancos also scored 121 goals in the competition in that famous 2011-12 campaign, another La Liga record, while they would end up losing just twice in the league - to Levante and Barca respectively.

Mourinho managed Madrid between 2010 and 2013 and won 128 of his 178 matches in charge of the Spanish club.

Although Madrid's chance of winning a UCL trophy with Jose in that year was dashed by Bayern, the Germans also didn't get their hands on the trophy as they went on to lose 4-3 on penalties to Jose former team, Chelsea.
