Former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane has reacted after Austin Jay Jay Okocha claimed he would like the South African tactician to be in charge of the Nigerian national team.

The former Al Ahly manager is currently in the market in search of a new coaching job after departing UAE Pro League side Al Wahda last month.

Okocha rated the 59-year-old manager as one of the best African coaches and would be a good replacement for the struggling Jose Peseiro.

The Portuguese manager has been under criticism after the Super Eagles drew their first two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

The South African manager took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) to react to Okocha's kind words about him and backing him for the Super Eagles job, according to a report by Soccer Laduma.

"Legendary JJ. Have you seen his footage when he was playing? He used to turn defenders in Europe inside out. Same class as Ronaldinho. A Gentleman also," he said.

"Humbled Legend. I have highest respect for the Super Eagles. Powerhouse of African Football and supplier of talent for European Teams."
Mosimane recently claimed he would like to coach a team at the AFCON and lead a country to the World Cup.

The South African coach also had kind words to say about the crop of players in the Nigerian national team.
