Former Nigerian striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has expressed dissatisfaction with the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro’s poor substitutions against Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Monrovia.

Osimhen scored twice in the opening half, but Sierra Leone staged a second-half comeback before Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to net the winning goal for Nigeria.

However, questions was raised on the Portuguese tactician’s substitution which many have criticised, including the former Wolfsburg star.

Akpoborie in a chat with Completesports.com said that Peseiro’s poor substitution could have cost the team defeat against Sierra Leone.

He noted that despite the array of talents at his disposal, his inability to make good changes could affect the team in a major tournament.

“Yes I am happy that the team have qualified for the 2023 AFCON but then the Super Eagles coach has plenty of work to do when it comes to making substitution.

“Nigeria could have ended up losing the game against Sierra Leone due to Peseiro’s poor substitution in the second half, a things that was so glaring.

“If Nigeria must achieve anything tangible at the tournament in Ivory Coast then Peseiro must know his team better in a bid to make quality changes that will be result-oriented.”
