Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has named Victor Osimhen as the new Super Eagles penalty taker.

The 23-year-old takes over from Odion Ighalo who was absent from the side during the Eagles' tour in the United States and the two AFCON qualifier matches against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome.

Osimhen stole the limelight with his double brace when the three-time African champions battered Sao Tome by 10 goals to nil in Morocco on Monday, June 13.

The 23-year-old also assisted twice in the same encounter as Nigeria moved to the top of group A with six points, two more than Guinea-Bissau who were held to a two-all draw by Sierra Leone.

The former Lille man had the chance to score his fifth from the spot but handed over the responsibility to Watford's Emmanuel Dennis to score what proved to be the last kick of the game to wrap up a comprehensive victory for Jose Peseiro's side.

Coach Peseiro has pointed out that he has chosen Osimhen as the designated penalty taker for the Eagles.

He also lauded the Napoli attacker's leadership qualities and his unselfishness to allow Dennis to take the spot-kick to wrap up a historic win.

“Osimhen is a leader in his personality and could have scored five goals against Sao Tome as I have appointed Osimhen as our designated penalty taker,” the 62-year-old said as reported by The Punch.

“But he gave Dennis the opportunity to score, I like his humility, he’s a good guy with a big heart and I appreciate it.”
