Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has promised to upgrade the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan to world class status.

The governor said this on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the commencement of the upgrading of the stadium.

The remodeling of the sports complex was awarded at a total cost of N5,580,001,151

The governor said he went to the stadium to watch the 3SC match once and discovered the facilities there were in a very poor state.

Makinde said, “When the history of this place was being traced just now, they started the construction of the stadium 44 years ago. It was inaugurated 32 years ago.

“I came here once to watch a 3SC game and at half time, I went to the changing room to talk to and encourage the players but I could not believe what I saw, players sat on the bare floor. And I asked myself. Is this where we want to mould world-class athletes?

“So, I said ‘no’. I felt for both the players and the crew.

“After that, I decided to, on my own, visit this place and looked at all of the facilities that we have in here. They were all in a state of dilapidation.”
