Victor Osimhen trained away from his Galatasaray teammates on Thursday as the Turkish champions intensified preparations for their Super Lig derby against Beşiktaş, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigeria international, who scored the decisive penalty in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League win over Liverpool at Rams Park, was substituted in the 72nd minute after suffering cramp.
According to reports in Turkey, the 26-year-old striker did not join the rest of the squad in the morning session but instead underwent a special workout, raising concerns about his availability for the crunch clash against Beşiktaş.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk had earlier moved to ease fears, insisting that Osimhen was not injured but had only suffered fatigue during the Liverpool encounter.
“Osimhen was feeling tired and had a cramp in his foot, but we don’t think it’s anything serious,” Buruk told the club’s official website after Tuesday’s game. “There’s no negative information coming in at this time, so we expect him to be fine.”
The Super Eagles forward, who has quickly become a fan favourite in Istanbul, has scored 40 goals in 46 appearances for the club since his arrival from Napoli. He was named Man of the Match against Liverpool after tormenting Arne Slot’s defence with his pace and movement before netting his 16th-minute penalty.
