Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is likely to face severe sanctions from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over his verbal attack on coach Finidi George.

OwnGoalNigeria reports that the Napoli striker will be charged by the NFF for improper conduct when the soccer house opens disciplinary proceedings into his social media rant directed at the national team's head coach.

Finidi George resigned from his role as head coach of the Super Eagles on Saturday, June 15, after the NFF announced their decision to hire a foreign technical adviser for the team.

Osimhen criticized the former international following his resignation, alleging that Finidi George claimed he faked an injury to miss the Super Eagles' World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic. However, it turns out that the report of Finidi George questioning Osimhen's commitment to the national team was false and misleading.

A board member of the NFF disclosed to OwnGoalNigeria that the federation will deliberate on the matter after the Eid holiday, and the Napoli striker is likely to be sidelined from the team until he apologizes to Finidi George.

"Already, the president of the NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has spoken with Osimhen about his outburst, and Finidi also reached out to him. The report he reacted to is false and misleading, but sadly he didn’t confirm it before reacting,” the board member said.

"Osimhen is a role model, and the only way we can help the incoming coach stamp his authority on the team is by using him as an example. He crossed the line with his outburst. Even when Finidi called him to explain, he still didn’t deem it fit to retract his statements. We won’t condone that, and after the Eid break, we will sit on the issue. I can tell you he won’t be in the team until he says sorry for his actions,” the board member concluded.
