Osimhen not angry after substitution

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has played down talks of being unhappy at being withdrawn in the Partenopei’s 4-0 win against Monza in Serie A on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Osimhen scored his second goal of the season for Napoli on Sunday but he was substituted in the 86th minute for Adam Ounas – the second time this season.

The Nigeria international was also replaced in Napoli’s Serie A opening 5-2 win over Hellas Verona at Marcantonio Bentegodi last Monday.

“It’s nothing to do with the change, but I wanted to motivate the team even more,” Osimhen told DAZN when asked if he was angry at being replaced.

“It was a great performance, I’m proud of how the team started from the first minute to the last.”

Osimhen also heaped plaudits on Napoli’s new signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was brought in to replace Lorenzo Insigne.

The Georgian forward has been a revelation in Naples, scoring three goals and adding an assist in his opening two league fixtures for Napoli.

“He (Kvaratskhelia) is a player who can give a lot and help us win the game,” Osimhen added.

“We will continue to work to build the understanding even more.

“Everyone, from those on the field to those on the bench, will try to give our all for this season. There are many challenges to understanding where this Napoli can go.”

Napoli, who are topping the Serie A table with six points, will next face Fiorentina at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday.
