Former Napoli coach Gigi De Canio has urged Gennaro Gattuso to stick to the starting line up that defeated Parma 2-0 in their Serie A match-day one when they take on Genoa on Sunday – a move that suggests that Nigeria international Victor Osimhen could be on the bench for a second straight game.

Osimhen came off the bench in the 61st minute for Diego Demme in the Partenopei’s 2-0 win last weekend with Dries Martens leading the attack while Hirving Lozano and Lorenzo Insigne completed the front three.

“I think Gattuso can restart with the same line up as Parma against Genoa if he wants to keep Mertens inside, and maybe he could replace Lozano, Canio told Radio Kiss Kiss, a Naples based radio station on Friday.

“But I don’t see why Mertens should be replaced. We are only at the beginning. I liked Lozano very much. He is becoming familiar with the team, with the environment."

Dare more. This also comes from the trust that is recognised in him.

“Like Osimhen he has the same rights. I’d be sorry if it came out. He did very well with Parma.”

Osimhen, who bagged two hat-tricks for Napoli in pre-season, is yet to get off the mark in the Serie A.
