Osimhen likely to miss 2021 AFCON

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen is likely to miss the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Cameroon after his injury in the weekend's Serie A fixture against Inter Milan.

The 22-year-old striker who will undergo surgery in the coming days to correct a cheekbone fracture will be out for six weeks.

Osimhen was substituted 10 minutes after the second half after the aerial clash with Milan Skriniar.

The AFCON in Cameroon begins on January 9, 2022, and ends on February 6.

Reports from Italy say Osimhen has been discharged from the hospital as top officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) monitor his progress ahead of the continental showpiece.

“It’s a major concern but we cannot comment about Osimhen until we hear from the club,” an NFF official told BBC Sport Africa.

“Hopefully there will be some positive news after his surgery.”
