Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen is confident he can surpass the legendary Rashidi Yekini's record as the top scorer for the national team.

The late Super Eagles goal poacher netted 37 goals in 62 caps for the national team in an international career that spanned from 1984 to 1998.

He is widely regarded as the best Nigerian striker in history.

At age 23, Osimhen is destined for greatness in world football.

Many have tipped him to break Yekini's long-standing record after his heroics against Sao Tome and Principe during the Nations Cup qualifiers in June.

The 23-year-old hit a double brace against a lackluster Sao Tome side to move his goal tally at the international level from 18 to 22.

The Napoli forward also moved into the top ten on the scorer's chart for the national team.

“I used to say it’s a big shoe to fill but with the kind of quality that I possess, and the kind of determination that I’ve acquired in this my career, I think I can actually break it or even surpass it,” Osimhen told Naijafootballers as reported by soccernet.

The ex-Lille forward however admitted that it won't be an easy feat to accomplish making reference to some of the great strikers the country has produced.

“But it won’t be easy and that won’t make me the greatest Nigerian striker ever. We still have the likes of Rashidi Yekini, Odion Ighalo, Obafemi Martins and the rest of them but now I believe it’s my time and it’s my turn and I can utilise it very well.”
