Osimhen, Ndidi share spoils in Istanbul derby

Nigeria internationals Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi were on opposite sides as Galatasaray and Besiktas played out a 1-1 draw in the Istanbul derby on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Both players started the match and played 86 minutes before being substituted, with Ndidi making way for Kartal Yilmaz while Mauro Icardi replaced Osimhen.

Besiktas took the lead through Tammy Abraham in the 12th minute at Rams Park, but the match turned on its head when Davinson Sanchez received a red card in the 34th minute.

Galatasaray capitalised on their numerical advantage when Ilkay Gundogan scored the equaliser in the 55th minute to salvage a point for the hosts.

The draw ended Galatasaray’s perfect start to the Turkish Super Lig season, having won all seven of their opening league fixtures.

Fresh off a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over English champions Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League during the week, courtesy of Osimhen’s 16th-minute penalty, Okan Buruk’s side were expected to continue their winning streak.

However, Besiktas proved stubborn opponents despite being reduced to 10 men for over an hour.

Galatasaray remain top of the standings with 22 points from eight matches, while Beşiktaş stay fifth with 13 points from seven fixtures.

The result maintains Galatasaray’s impressive attacking record this season, having scored 18 goals while conceding just three in league competition.
