Super Falcons and Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala, is a doubt for the country’s final round of the qualification series for next year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an injury that could rule her out for two months.

The Falcons progressed to the final round after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ghana’s Black Queens where they will now face the Lady Elephants of Ivory Coast in February 2022.

However, according to the Barcelona website, Oshoala is set to be out of action for a while after she suffered a rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament in her right knee against Hoffenheim.

The statement on the club’s official website says, “According to the Club’s Medical Services, Asisat Oshoala has a ruptured posterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.

“The Nigerian striker, who was injured in the second half of Wednesday’s match against Hoffenheim, will be out for about two months.”

The Nigerian was substituted in the 63rd minute during Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over TSG Hoffenheim in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool star is expected to be back from the injury before the game against the Ivoirians but it remains to be seen if she will be fit enough to take part in the all-important clash.

However, the four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year will be forced to miss out on the Nigeria camp later this month in Abuja.

The news will come as a blow to Randy Waldrum, who had initially included the captain for selection ahead of the international break from November 22-30 in the build-up to February’s showdown.

The Falcons have attended all past eleven editions of the tournaments in which they have won a record nine.
