Super Falcons coach Justin Madugu has confirmed the captain of the team ahead of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations which begins later this years.

Nigeria will be aiming for a tenth WAFCON title in Morocco next month after failing in their previous attempt.

However, the build-up to the tournament has not been great, as the team has only played once since last November. Their last game was a friendly against Cameroon, which they won 2-0.

Meanwhile, there have been a few lingering questions about the team, one of which is the captainship.

The team has a number of senior players, all of whom actually have a good shout at wearing the captain's armband. Defender Osinachi Ohale has been reliable, but former Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala has the experience and the talent to be in contention too.

There are also other senior stars like Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Francesca Ordega, who could also be considered.

However, coach Madugu has now clarified the issue. He has stated that Ajibade will be the captain of the Super Falcons.

“Rasheedat (Ajibade) is the official captain of the Super Falcons,” Madugu told Sports Zone.

The 2024 WAFCON will begin on July 5 and end on July 26. The Super Falcons of Nigeria are in Group B of the tournament, alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
