Okoye under fire as Udinese suffer fourth straight Serie A defeat

Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic has blamed goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and defender Nicolo Bertola for Udinese’s 2-1 loss to Torino in the Italian Serie A on Monday, October 12.

The defeat was Udinese’s fourth consecutive loss in Serie A this season, leaving the Zebras in 15th position in the league table.

A collision between Okoye and Bertola led to Torino’s winner in the second half, as Sandro Kulenović capitalised on the error to tap the ball into the empty net.

The 27-year-old Super Eagles shot-stopper had advanced from his post to deal with a long ball before colliding with Bertola.

Runjaic expressed his disappointment with the costly error during his post-match press conference.

“Primarily, we must address the error committed by Bertola and Okoye,” the manager said, as quoted by Diretta.

“Had that mistake not occurred, the match would have ended in a draw. We have suffered four consecutive defeats as a result of errors.

“This outcome is unsatisfactory to me, and as a team, we remain dissatisfied, despite our respectable performance this evening.”
