Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha, believes Paris Saint Germain stand a better chance of winning the UEFA Champions League than ever, following the arrival of Lionel Messi at the club, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

PSG reached the final of the competition two seasons ago, suffering a painful defeat to Bayern Munich, before losing in the semi-finals to Manchester City last season.

Okocha, who starred for PSG from 1998 to 2002, added that the Argentine would be an asset to the club as they eye their first-ever UCL trophy and also reclaim the Ligue 1 title this season.

“It doesn’t get any better, PSG is my team and I’m like a huge fan of the club now. It’s great to see the club moving in the right direction and made it clear how ambitious they are with the signing of Messi,” Okocha told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“The signing of great players at the club did not just start with Messi. PSG have been signing great players over the years; me, Ronaldinho, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Marco Veratti and others.

“More have taken on the baton and have been running with it, so it is good to see one of the greatest, if not the greatest in the game join the team, we all can’t wait to see how they set out this season.

“Two seasons ago, they got to the final, last season the semi-final, now PSG have signed a player who will get them over that finishing line and they’ve done well so far. They have knocked the door and hopefully, they have gotten that last puzzle that will get them that trophy.

“Hopefully Messi will be the one that will complete the equation.”

PSG have started the new Ligue 1 season recording wins over Troyes and Strasbourg.
