The FIFA World Cup is undoubtedly the pinnacle of world football. The global showpiece which was first held in 1935 has witnessed some classic team and individual performances.

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup set to kick off in the Gulf region of Qatar in the next few weeks, we look back to one of the most brilliant individual displays in a single match.

Even though Nigeria will not be featuring at this year's Mundial following their ouster against rivals Ghana in the playoffs, football lovers the three-time African champions still have something to smile about.

The legendary Austin Jay-Jay Okocha holds the record for the most successful dribbles in a single World Cup game since 1966.

The ex-Super Eagles captain completed an outstanding 15 dribbles against Italy in Nigeria's first appearance at the World Cup in USA 1994.

No other football star has managed to replicate this feat 28 years on, not even the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, and Zinedine Zidane among others.

It was one of the outstanding individual performances in the history of the World Cup.

Sadly, however, after a remarkable performance from Okocha who was then plying his trade for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, Nigeria lost 2-1 to 10 men Italian side inspired by Roberto Baggio.

The Super Eagles couldn't make the most out of the sending-off of Gianfranco Zola after a rough foul on Augustine Eguavoen as the Azzurris came from behind to win the game.
