Okeke eager to win, grow as he joins Real Madrid basketball

Chuma Okeke has officially signed with Real Madrid, marking a new chapter in the American power forward’s career.

Speaking in his first interview with Realmadrid TV on Wednesday, Okeke described the move as a “very exciting” opportunity and expressed his readiness to contribute to the team’s success.

“It’s going to be a new experience, it’s something very exciting for me. What I want is to start and win, and continue to have fun, playing basketball,” Okeke said.

Reflecting on his physical condition, the versatile forward said he feels better than ever.

“Over the years, I’ve prepared my body to withstand whatever it takes. I feel like right now it’s stronger than ever, I’m in really good shape. I wouldn’t say I’ve reached my peak, but I’m close,” he said.

On his playing style, Okeke described himself as adaptable and team-orientated.

“I’m a very versatile player, I can play in any position, it’s something I’ve done before. I can play from point guard to power forward. I can create plays, lead, score, rebound… I’m supportive, hardworking, I like to play for the team, and obviously I’m a winner,” he said.

The 25-year-old revealed that he had spoken with current Real Madrid player Guerschon Yabusele before the move.

“He told me that Real Madrid is a good organisation, the best in the Euroleague, and that I was going to love it,” Okeke said. “I had already heard about it before I came here, I’ve spoken to people and I’ve informed myself.”

Praising the club’s facilities, Okeke said, “I’ve already seen the excellent facilities that Real Madrid has. Good courts, a good gymnasium, and medical services. Everything I’ve seen is great.”

Looking ahead to the Euroleague season, he stated his eagerness to make his mark.

“It’s very competitive and I’m looking forward to playing it and seeing where I fit in this Liga, especially now that it’s expanding and growing,” he said.

Okeke also took a moment to send a message to the fans, adding, “I can’t wait to put on the jersey and make a start, win games, have fun, learn the culture… It’s very exciting for me, it’s something new. I thank you for your welcome. We’re going to have fun and win.”
