Doma United coach, Akinade Onigbinde, says his team is not under pressure to secure a super-six playoff spot in the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League season following their impressive run so far, The PUNCH reports.

The newly promoted side have enjoyed a steady run in their debut season in the topflight and they sit just a place below the top-three on goals difference in Group B with 19 points from 13 matches.

They have been able to secure five fins, four draws and four other defeats. Three of their draws have come away from home, making them one of the best travellers this season.

Doma have also won the Gombe State FA Cup after beating fellow NPFL side, Gombe United 9-8 on penalties to claim the Savannah bragging rights.

With five games left, Onigbinde is optimistic they can end the regular season a high.

He, however, maintained that their focus was on retaining their status in the league.

“It’s wonderful to know we have been able to surprise a lot of people. We need to win some matches, both home and away, and I think everyone of us; the players, the technical crew and the management are working hard to get there, and it’s possible if we continue the way we are and never give up. I believe we need to take each match seriously the way they come,” Onigbinde told our correspondent.

Their remaining five games in the league include home dates against Wikki Tourists, Bayelsa United and Enugu Rangers, while they will also travel to play Rivers United and Abia Warriors.
