Nigerian stars set Serie A record on opening day

Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and David Okereke were all on target for their respective clubs as the new 2022/2023 Serie A season kicked off last weekend.

Lookman scores on Atalanta debut

Ademola Lookman came off the bench to seal a 2-0 win for Atalanta on his Serie A debut on Saturday, August 13.

The 24-year-old joined Gian Piero Gasperini's side from RB Leipzig earlier this month in a deal believed to be worth €15m including add-ons.

David Okereke scores on Serie A debut for Cremonese

David Okereke scored on his Serie debut for the newly promoted side, Cremonese in their 3-2 defeat away to Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi stadium on Sunday, August, 14.

Okereke netted Cremonese's first league goal on their return to topflight football when he scored an 18th-minute equalizer for the Serie A new boys.

The 24-year-old joined Cremonese from Club Brugge for a reported club record fee of €10m.

Osimhen scores and assist for Napoli on Matchday one

Victor Osimhen also began the new season on a positive note as he scored and assisted another to aid Napoli to a 5-2 victory away at Hellas Verona on Monday night.

Recent statistics as per Giuseppe Pastore have revealed that players from 20 countries scored on the opening day of the new Serie A season.

Out of the 20 countries, only Italy had recorded more players on the scoresheet than Nigeria.

Italy had 8 players scoring on Matchday one, Nigeria followed with 3 players.
