New video shows Moises Caicedo dominating Lionel Messi despite embarrassing moment

Moises Caicedo might be only 21 years old but he has been around long enough to understand that no matter what you do in football, fans will always remember that one moment when you made a fool for yourself.

Caicedo's trajectory is the typical feel-good factor story that reinforces hope in sports as a tool for alleviating one's societal status.

Going from the trenches of Mujer Trabajadora in Ecuador to playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, never mind their form in recent months, is a huge achievement in any language.

Caicedo's short time at Brighton and Hove and Albion convinced the free-spending Chelsea hierarchy to fork out €115 million to partner him with Enzo Fernandez at the base of Chelsea's midfield, as captured on the club's website.

Interceptions, work ethic, dynamism, passing range, and stamina are what any coach would want in a defensive midfielder - the Ecuadorian has most, if not all, of these attributes.

Moises Caicedo vs Messi's Argentina

Such were the qualities that were on display as he ran Argentina's midfield ragged when he came up against them in a South American World Cup qualifier in Buenos Aires.

The former Independiente star faced the same midfield that propelled Lionel Scaloni's side to World Cup glory in Qatar last year.

If a video doing rounds on social media is anything to go by, the Chelsea star was impressive as he managed to dispossess the star of the show, Lionel Messi, a couple of times.

So good was he that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, at one time, recognised that he was up against a proper midfielder.

Messi showed his respect by extending his arms to bring Caicedo back to his feet in a true gesture of sportsmanship.

Messi humiliates Caicedo

As Sports Brief has also reported, unfortunately for Caicedo, the moment many fans will remember from the game was Messi's ingenious moment.

Seemingly fed up with the midfielder intercepting him at every moment, the Inter Miami star unlocked a new level of dribbling to get away from him.

Messi dropped a shoulder to Caicedo and pretended to go one way before quickly turning, with his move leaving the Ecuadorian sprawling on the turf.

In his defence, not many people get the better of Messi and if you do, he will always find a way of showing you why he is the best footballer many have ever seen.
