NSF: Gov Sule gifts gold medallists N1m, athletes get N16m

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdulahi Sule, on Thursday received the state’s athletes and their coaches who participated at the 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State, The PUNCH reports.

The reception was held at the Conference Hall, Government House, Lafia according to a statement signed by Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Public Relations Officer, Eche Amos.

Team Nasarawa finished 18th at the NSF with four gold, three silver and 12 bronze medals.

Sule gave N1m each to the gold medalists, N750,000 to silver medalists and N500,000 to bronze medalists.

He also rewarded coaches of the medalists with N2m.

The governor also rewarded Tularam Mamman, a wrestler who won gold, with $1000, adding that his integrity won his heart.

He commended the driver who escaped with the lives of the athletes and the NSCDC officer who shot and killed one of the robbers that attacked the contingent’s bus on their way back from Edo State, with $500.

“Let me thank the entire Team Nasarawa contingent, both those who won and didn’t win medals, for the great showing in the face of all odds. This is a huge achievement,” Sule stated.
