Remo Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has again emphasised that he and his team are not getting carried away despite their perfect start in the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The league new boys are currently top of the table with six points following their emphatic victory over Heartland on Sunday.

Andy Okpe’s goals in the third and fifth minutes put the Sky Blue Stars in a commanding position before Samuel Ankwe scored the third goal of the encounter in the 71st minutes to seal the victory.

The result means the Ikenne-based side alongside Enyimba international boasts a perfect start to the new season having picked an away win against MFM FC in the matchday 1 of the 2021/22 season.

Speaking with The Punch, Ogunbote said it was too early talking about being league leaders as he hoped not to get carried away with their impressive form.

He said, “We are happy with our perfect start to the season but we won’t allow that to get into our heads.

“As I did say, Remo is just a new team in the premiership and we will strive to ensure that we sustain the premiership status because that is our target for now.

“We want to ensure that we remain in the league and not return to the NNL and we hope we can manage the success to enable us to attain our goal and if anything better comes our way we will be very happy with it.

“At the moment all the players, the coaching staff are happy but I think it is just too early to be making a statement. We have 38 games in the league and we have only played two, we should not shy away from the fact that Remo is a young team and still have a lot of things to learn and we are trying to educate the team and know what it takes to be in the topflight league.”
