2023 Africa Player of The Year Victor Osimhen could be on his way to Real Madrid this summer, with football commentator Ertem Şener claiming that newly appointed Madrid manager José Mourinho has identified the Super Eagles striker as a primary transfer target, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Şener, speaking via Turkish outlet habersarikirmizi.com, revealed that Mourinho has specifically requested Osimhen as he prepares to begin his second spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, and that the figures being discussed between both clubs appear to align.
“I think there’s a possibility Osimhen might leave Galatasaray. I heard Mourinho wants Osimhen at Real Madrid. Florentino Perez said during the election, ‘I’ve agreed a deal with a player for 150 million Euros.’ Galatasaray is also asking for that amount for Osimhen,” Şener said.
“I’m asking the Galatasaray fans here. Florentino Perez sent 150 million euros and said, ‘I’m buying Victor Osimhen,’ what do you say?” he added.
A move at that valuation — reported at €150m — would rank among the most expensive transfers in football history, and would make Osimhen the first Super Eagles player ever to represent Real Madrid.
Mourinho returned to Madrid this summer, signing a three-year contract running until June 2029. His previous stint at the club from 2010 to 2013 delivered the 2011/12 La Liga title with a record 100 points, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
He returns to a club that has gone two seasons without a major trophy and finished behind Barcelona in La Liga last term.
Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, fired the Turkish giants to the Super Lig title with 15 goals and five assists in 22 league appearances while also making his mark in the UEFA Champions League with seven goals and three assists.
Osimhen has since attracted interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Tactically, Osimhen fits the Mourinho template precisely. Throughout his career, the Portuguese manager has built his most successful sides around powerful, mobile centre-forwards — Didier Drogba and Diego Costa at Chelsea being the clearest examples.
Osimhen’s combination of explosive pace, physical strength, aerial ability and relentless pressing from the front mirrors the profile Mourinho has consistently demanded of his strikers.
