Former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho has made a joke about the club's latest acquisition.

Chelsea splashed €100m for Mykhaylo Mudryk who has less than 50 senior appearances.

While many see it as a gamble and irresponsible financial decision others see it as a statement in the transfer market.

Speaking after his AS Roma side beat 10-man Fiorentina 2-0, Mourinho highlighted the need for additions to his squad in key areas but he has been told by the club hierarchy there are no funds.

“I am not expecting anyone to arrive. The director was very honest and direct… Coaches always want to hear we have lots of money. I worked at clubs with those sorts of practically limitless funds, but it’s not our profile. We work, we give our all, we work with the characteristics we’ve got,” he said.

“We need to find a solution, we can’t just buy Mudryk for €100m!” he added.

Chelsea beat Arsenal with a €5m difference in their offers as the Ukrainian joined the Blues.
