Milan eye Boniface to replace Origi

Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Italian giants, AC Milan, are in the market for a striker as a replacement for underwhelming Divock Origi and have identified Nigerian Victor Boniface as a suitable replacement for the Dutchman.

Boniface has been in sensational form since his transfer to Belgian side Union SG, with a goal involvement of 21 in all competitions, eight (six goals, two assists) of them in the Europa League.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Milan and according to Tuesday’s edition of Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it), Origi’s recent disappointing performance against Bologna seems to have definitively convinced Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to buy the Nigerian to partner with Olivier Giroud for next season.

“Among the main names under observation is 22-year-old Victor Boniface, a Nigerian striker for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium,” the website wrote.

“Boniface scored 11 goals in 13 games this year between Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League for USG, while he has six goals in 30 league appearances.

“Boniface is also being followed closely by Napoli and Lazio, given that he has a price tag which is very much accessible, so the possibility that an auction will be triggered that will also involve other clubs during the summer is anything but remote.”

Boniface joined the Brussels-based team from Bodo Glimt for a club-record fee of €2m at the start of the season and has been in sensational form since then.

Reports in Belgium pointed out that Union would consider offers for the 1.89m forward at the end of the season, but are hoping for a fee in the region of €20m.
